Snapdragon 732G vs Snapdragon 720G Comparison

Qualcomm has recently launched the Snapdragon 732G which is the latest processor of the 700-series of the company. It is a mid-range processor specialized in gaming. The Qualcomm 732G processor shares most of its features with the Snapdragon 720G processor which was launched in January 2020. With 8nm manufacturing process technology, powerful CPU and GPU units, the company has made some improvements in the Snapdragon 732G than its predecessor 730G. The Snapdragon 732G chip has been featured in the Poco X3 smartphone. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 720G is also a mid-range and a gaming processor. Poco M2 Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Realme 6 Pro and Realme 7 Pro are the smartphones that house the Snapdragon 720G SoC. In this article, we have made a detailed comparison of both SoCs stating their Pros and Cons.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G
Manufacturing process:
The Snapdragon 732G processor is fabricated with 8nm FinFET process technology. Similarly, the Snapdragon 720G is also built with the 8nm manufacturing process. As both the processors have been fabricated with the same manufacturing process so they will be equally efficient.
CPU:
Both the processors have an Octa-core CPU unit. The Snapdragon 720G has two cores of Kryo 465 Gold ARM Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.3 GHz for performance and six cores of Kryo Silver 465 ARM Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.8 GHz for efficiency. Whereas the latest Snapdragon 732G has two cores of Kryo 470 ARM Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.3GHz, and six cores of Kryo 470 ARM Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.8GHz for performance and efficiency respectively. So the CPU units of Snapdragon 732G are newer than that of the Snapdragon 720G with the latest Kryo 470 Gold cores for performance. Therefore, we can conclude that the Snapdragon 732G will be a more powerful and efficient processor than 720G.
GPU:
The Snapdragon 732G and Snapdragon 720G both have the Adreno 618 GPU unit. But the difference lies in the operating frequencies of both the processors. The Snapdragon 732G maximum GPU frequency is 800 MHz. Whereas the Snapdragon 720G operates at a maximum frequency of 750 MHz. We see that Snapdragon 732G has 6.6% higher GPU frequency than the 720G. Hence, in terms of graphics rendering speed and graphics quality, the Snapdragon 732 SoC will be more efficient than the Snapdragon 720G. Additionally, both the SoC supports OpenCL 2.0 FP, OpenGL ES 3.2, and Vulkan 1.1 API.

Camera:
The Snapdragon 732G and 720G both have Qualcomm Spectra 350 image signal processor. The camera sensors of Snapdragon 732G supports dual-camera with MFNR and ZSL at 30fps up to 22 MP, Single Camera with MFNR, and ZSL(30fps) Up to 36 MP, Single Camera with MFNR Up to 48 MP, and Single-Camera up to 192 MP. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 720G supports a single camera up to 192 MP or a single camera up to 32 MP with MFNR and ZSL(30 fps). Dual-camera supports up to 16 MP with MFNR and ZSL(30fps). Hence the camera sensors of Snapdragon 732G are better and will capture good quality photos than that of the Snapdragon 720G.
Display:
The display unit of the Snapdragon 732G supports up to QHD+ 3360 X 1440 pixels. The external display supports 4K Ultra HD and the on-device display supports up to Quad HD+. Whereas the Qualcomm 720G has 2520 x 1080 pixels at 90Hz and 120Hz with HDR 10. So the Snapdragon 732G has better display units than that of the Snapdragon 720G.
Modem:
In terms of connectivity, there is no difference between the two processors. Both of them have Qualcomm X15 LTE Cellular modem. The maximum download speed is 800 Mbps whereas the maximum upload speed is 150 Mbps in both the processors. None of them supports 5G connectivity and hence runs on 4G LTE.
Geekbench and Antutu Benchmark Test
Talking about Geekbench v5 scores, Snapdragon 720G powered Poco M2 Pro has scored 552 points in the single-core test and 1665 points in the multi-core test. On the other hand, Snapdragon 732G powered Poco X3 has managed to get 571 points in the single-core test and 1766 points in the multi-core test. So, 732G is the clear winner.

As far as Antutu scores are concerned, Snapdragon 720G has achieved 280508 points in Antutu test. On the other hand, Snapdragon 732G powered Poco X3 NFC has scored 301581 points in Antutu. So, based on Antutu scores, we can conclude that 732G delivers 7.5% better performance than 720G.
